Hello, everyone! My name is Pete Land, and I am the Mayor of our beloved City of Crown Point. I am a lifelong resident of Crown Point, growing up with my seven siblings on South Court Street. I have three sons, Kyle, Benjamin and Jack, all of whom were raised in our City.
Prior to being Mayor, I served 34 years as a police officer with the Crown Point Police Department, with 17 of those years serving as the chief of police under three administrations. As the police chief, I was responsible for creating and administering the annual department budget. I reported under budget each of those 17 years, returning money to the City’s general fund. I also became familiar with the operations of city government, working with various City Council members and City board members, while overseeing the operations of the police department keeping Crown Point one of the safest communities in Indiana.
Since becoming Mayor, I have carried out and initiated numerous infrastructure projects to ensure our residents have the highest quality of services. These projects have enhanced our water, wastewater and road infrastructure, including expanding our downtown parking areas and alleviating long-standing flooding issues. To ensure we get the most from our financial investments, we have secured millions of dollars in grant funding, saving taxpayer dollars.
I have worked to bring in good, responsible growth that does not take away from those already in Crown Point, but works to complement our community. Additionally, my administration has worked to expand the variety of City amenities available to our residents. We all work hard, and it’s important our citizens have state-of-the-art, quality amenities to enjoy. Currently, we are developing a destination park in Sauerman Woods, which will serve as a first-rate, family friendly pastime. We have secured $5.41 million in grant funding to help pay for both the infrastructure components, as well as the park and entertainment features.
Crown Point is and has always been my home — it’s where I chose to live, raise a family and work. I was blessed to serve our community as a police officer, and it has been my honor to continue my service as the mayor. I am asking for your support as we work to, “Build a Stronger Community from Within,” and keep our City the gem of Lake County.
