Hometown Happenings would like to introduce you to our running friend, Stephanie Betts. Stephanie is very supportive of her friends and is always encouraging and motivating them to join her in being active… which also means, they will have a LOT of fun! Stephanie does NOT know a stranger. So, if you see her at one of our events, be sure to say “hello”. And with that, let’s find out a bit more about her:
Why did you start running? I started running for two reasons. One because I wanted to challenge myself for something I have never done before. Second because my near and dear friend Jessica Bellinger asked me to do a 5k race with her in honor of her son who had passed.
How did you get started? I started with lots of questions and many different apps! I researched everything about it and settled in with C25K. ( Couch to 5k) it was a great starter app but now I would recommend Nike Run Club for any level! Their guided runs are the best!
What’s your favorite Hometown Happening’s event? My favorite would probably the 9/11stair climb. I know it probably isn’t what you expected but that one hits my heart climbing for a fallen hero! I have never missed one!
What goal do you still want to accomplish with your running? I want Tim to see me cross the finish line this September when I complete my first half marathon!
What is your best advice to a new runner or someone just getting started? Allow yourself time to grow! Running is for what you can gain and not lose! If you want to lose stress look at it as gaining peace! My best advise is to take it slow and remember to stretch often and do the yoga!
