Talk Around Town Tuesday – Aly Brown, Counselor, Infinity Counseling by Lisa J.
It’s Talk Around Town Tuesday and I am so happy to spotlight Ms. Aly Brown of Infinity Counseling. Aly’s specialty is quite close to my heart as a psychology major and someone who believes that mental health is underfunded, full of stigma, and is incredibly important to address. Aly is a counselor that is taking on the challenge to bring hope and light in times of confusion and darkness. Everyone is affected by mental health issues in their life some way or another and it takes special hearts to guide you on a path to understanding. While it may be your own personal battle, or one being faced by a loved, it’s all around us, and I give so much credit to those who are there to help.
Hometown Happenings is proud to have had a chance to get to know a little more about Aly, why she does what she does and how you can reach out.
Why did you go into counseling?
I have had many meaningful experiences throughout my life that have fueled my passion to give back and help others. I realize how important it is to have someone who listens, understands, and helps you get to a better place in life when you thought all hope was lost. I want to make a difference and have a positive impact on the lives of others by providing counseling services for those in need.
Where is your practice and what services do you offer?
I am a therapist at Infinity Counseling and Wellness Center, LLC located in Merrillville, Indiana. I offer individual counseling, office or home-based, to adults and adolescents.
What is your mission statement or philosophy?
I believe it is important to break the stigma of mental health issues. I often hear the term “crazy” when someone refers to an individual seeking help or even the individual that is seeking help. The truth is, mental health issues affect everyone, at some point in their life, but it’s more of an invisible wound that no one can see. Some are able to heal those wounds on their own, while others need a little more support. A person is not weak for seeking professional help; they are strong for taking action on wanting to get to a better place.
Can you tell us what you like most about your practice?
I am genuinely proud to be working for an agency that holds true to the concept of helping those less fortunate. Infinity Counseling additionally works with clients, who do not have insurance or cannot afford services, in order to provide for those who may have been denied by other agencies or practices.
When you are not helping others, how do you enjoy your free time?
When I do have free time, I usually like to spend it hiking with my dog, running outside, or catching up with friends and family.
Thank you, Aly, for recognizing the “invisible” and bringing it to light by helping to guide others to a better understanding of mental health and wellness.
