Feel Good Friday – St. Mary’s Catholic School – Educating Our Future by Principal Tom Ruiz & Lisa J.
Run Like a Mother 5K/2K is right around corner!! Along with fun, laughter, community, and contests, Hometown Happenings is happy to report that the preschoolers of St. Mary Catholic Community School, once again, agreed to create the beautiful finisher prizes. Moms’ most treasured gifts are ones made from the heart, and Hometown is so excited to share these homemade pieces made with just that by the grade school kids of St. Mary Catholic Community School.
It takes time, energy and, of course, patience to oversee such a big task, and Hometown is not only grateful for the creativity of the kids, but also the encouragement and excitement of their teacher, Cindy Anderson, who makes it all happen and the principal behind the scenes. In order to get to know the institution and the people who make it amazing, we asked Principal Tom Ruiz to tell us a little about St. Mary’s:
How long has St. Mary’s school been in Crown Point?
Since 1872.
How long have you been principal?
Finishing my 13th year. I’m the first male Principal in the school’s history. I have the second longest tenure as principal in the Diocese of Gary (20 schools).
What are the advantages to sending a child to St. Mary’s as opposed to a public school?
Faith-based education.
Family environment.
Community of families who all believe in education and support teachers.
What success stories have you seen since being Principal?
I’ve seen family after family provide an education for their children at St. Mary’s and then seen those students go on to great success in high school and beyond. The work effort developed at St. Mary’s pays off. I’ve also been around long enough to begin seeing some of the students that graduated while I’ve been principal begin to get married and start their own families.
What ages are offered?
Junior Preschool for three year-olds through 8th grade.
How does someone enroll their child?
We are currently accepting applications for new students for the 2019-2020 school year at all grade levels. Call 663-0676 or visit us at stmarycp.org/school for more information. Parents are also invited to like our Facebook page. One of the smartest things a prospective parent can do is speak with one of our current parents to learn about the benefits of a Catholic education at St. Mary’s School. We also give tours for those who’d like to visit.
Thank you Principal Ruiz , preschool teacher Cindy Anderson, and thank you to the preschoolers of St. Mary’s for making this Mother’s Day even more special with the awesome finisher’s prizes!! Hometown Happenings is so grateful for each of you and we can’t wait to meet all the mothers at the finish line with your heartfelt creations.
There is still time to sign up for the Run Like a Mother 5K/2K!! Don’t miss your chance to collect a homemade finisher prize, enter to win fun contests and spend the morning with other beautiful mothers this Sunday!!
