Just wanted to follow up with an update of the Beast Boot Camp 5K! First, Thank You for choosing to run our race this weekend. Several highlights stood out for me. Elaine Pell, a 92 year old WWII Veteran who worked in Naval Intelligence was able to join us this year. During the war, she helped decode Japanese messages. Of course, I think everyone’s favorite part is the pre-race warm ups with the US Marines. I know some people don’t like being yelled at, but it’s all in fun. And it’s nice to get a small sampling of what actual boot camp must be like. Old favorites like carrying the military backpacks up and down the steps were back. We also added what I hope will be some new favorites. Instead of tire jumps or box jumps, we jumped the steps at the horse arena grandstand. There was a “Herculean Hoist” where you grabbed a rope and pulled a sandbag to the top of a bar. There were two walls you had to climb over… until they came apart! The beer garden was also new this year!
When you signed up, you were given the option to donate a free meal at Carriage Court Pizza to a Veteran. If you didn’t know a Veteran, you could just write “Veteran” and we would find one for you. I still have a few more to send out. If your Veteran does not receive on, please let me know. I have heard back from some Veterans I know and they are genuinely touched that you and I think of them. So, on behalf of them, thank You! We also donate to pay for the US Marine Corps Ball that the Marines who help us at the event attend down in Indianapolis in the Fall. I feel very privileged – and I hope you do as well – that we are able to do this.
The event is not perfect but we are working towards that! We still make mistakes but we do try to minimize them and we strive to be better every year. If you have some thoughts or ideas you would like to share, please do so by emailing me at Tim@Yourhometownevents.com Many improvements have come from your suggestions. If you would, though, please be gentle as I feel like each of these events are like a “child” to me! Haha.
Also, if you had a fun time, please encourage your friends to join us next year. It would mean a lot to me if you would consider joining us again at an upcoming event.
Thank you, again!
Tim Fealy
