At Hometown Happenings, it’s part of our mission to support local charitable organizations and causes. In the upcoming “Walk a Mile in Her Heels”, participants will be able to vote for which local women’s organization they wish to support. The organization(s) receiving the most vote(s) will share in the proceeds. While participants are free to choose any local women’s charity or organization, here is a small list that are worth considering:
The Crown Point Community Foundation: administers a scholarship for women over 21 who wish to continue their education after having spent some time away from pursuing their education. This is a great help in allowing women to gain the skills they need to return to the workforce and improve their lives.
Gabriel’s Horn: Gabriel’s Horn Shelter provides a protected refuge for homeless women and their children by establishing and maintaining a facility which will provide for them a safe and temporary shelter and outreach services. We will empower women by giving them the tools to become self-sufficient through collaboration with our community, education, and counseling.
St. Jude House: Located in Crown Point, Indiana, St. Jude House serves as a safe shelter for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their dependent children. We offer support to victims as they pursue violence-free lives. Nearly 400 adults and children come to St. Jude House seeking safety and peace every year. Since opening in 1995, more than 9,400 people have been served by St. Jude House.
